Terms
Popmelon is free, early, and run by a small team. These terms are short because the service is simple.
You agree to these terms when you press a button in Popmelon that starts with “Agree”, such as “Agree and sign in with Google” or “Agree and sign in to start”. You are asked once in each browser, and again only when something important changes. Our Privacy Policy explains what we keep when you do.
What Popmelon is
A browser extension that keeps two or more people's playback at the same point in a video, with chat and optional voice. Watch together is a synchronised remote control. A separate, explicitly enabled tab-broadcasting mode lets a host share a chosen tab and its audio. It does not unlock protected content or grant rights to content you could not already access. To start or join a party you sign in with a Google account.
You need your own subscription
In Watch together mode, everyone streams from their own Netflix or YouTube account. Popmelon does not provide or unlock streaming content. When broadcasting a tab, share only material you have permission to share. Your use of Netflix and YouTube stays governed by their terms, not ours.
Not affiliated
Popmelon is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Netflix, YouTube, Google or any other streaming service. Their names are used only to say which services the extension works with.
Using it reasonably
Please do not:
- use Popmelon to harass anyone, or to send anyone content they have not asked for
- attempt to capture, record or redistribute protected content
- disrupt the service for other people, or try to break into parties you were not invited to
- use it in a way that breaks the law where you are
A party's invite link is its only key. Anyone you give it to who signs in can join, so share it the way you would share a door code.
What you say in a party
Chat messages and voice are yours. Voice and video pass through our media server live and are never recorded. Chat messages are saved for 30 days and then deleted, as our Privacy Policy describes. We do not moderate parties, and we read saved chat only to investigate a report of abuse or a security problem, when you ask us to, or when the law requires it. You are responsible for what you send, and for who you invite.
Your information
Our Privacy Policy explains what Popmelon keeps, why, for how long, and how to get a copy or have it deleted.
No guarantees
Popmelon is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. It is early software that depends on the internals of other companies' video players; those can change without warning and break synchronisation. We do not promise the service will be available, uninterrupted or error free, and we may change or discontinue it.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from using Popmelon. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
Ending it
You can stop using Popmelon at any time by removing the extension. Removing it does not delete what we have already saved: party records expire on the schedule in our Privacy Policy, and your Popmelon account stays until you ask us to delete it at prudhvi.daruvuri@gmail.com. To have records tied to your browser deleted too, send us your install ID; copy it before you uninstall, because uninstalling deletes it. We may suspend access for anyone abusing the service or breaking these terms.
Changes
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Continuing to use Popmelon after that means you accept the revised terms.
